I WANT TO JOIN!

Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam, Saipan, Lithuania, Ukraine, and South Korea.

Activity – Annual Family Picnic

By , August 18, 2012 10:49 pm

The Second Annual Knights of Columbus Family Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 30, 2012 starting at 3:00 pm with dinner at 4:30 pm, at Country Club Glen Park, 16335 Sheridan Avenue, Clive. The park is north of Hickman between 156th St. and Alice’s Road. The Council covers the cost of the picnic (hamburgers, brats, hotdogs, baked beans, potato salad, and of course… beverages) as a way of saying “Thank you” to all the members, and especially the families, for everyone’s commitment to the Knights all year long! You are welcome to bring a salad or dessert to share, if you wish.

This picnic allows us to socialize with brother Knights and to gather our families together. We will have some games for the kids to play. This is a great opportunity for all Knights who cannot make the usual monthly meetings to meet the officer group and receive updated information on the latest council activities. Bring a friend who wants to know more about the Knights!

This social is very informal. Please RSVP on “Doodle” by Sunday, September 23rd. If you would like to help in any way, please contact Jim Henscheid at: jimhenscheid@msn.com, or 515-422-0960.
